Definition
Physical AI combines perception, reasoning and control so machines can operate in factories, warehouses, hospitals and on roads. NVIDIA, a major proponent of the term, describes models that understand the physical world and are trained with large amounts of simulated and synthetic data before deployment.
Implementation looks different from software AI: safety certification, integration with operational technology, edge hardware and changes on the shop floor all matter as much as the model.
